1 Corinthians 11:27-29 GW (27) Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks from the Lord's cup in an improper way will be held responsible for the Lord's body and blood. (28) With this in mind, individuals must determine whether what they are doing is proper when they eat the bread and drink from the cup. (29) Anyone who eats and drinks is eating and drinking a judgment against himself when he doesn't recognize the Lord's body.
The minor discrepancies in the different translations of these verses seem to indicate even their translators didn't fully understand their meaning. (Remember: The original language Bible was inspired of God. (2 Tim 3:16-17) We have no indication any English Bible translation was. The truth is still in them, of course.) The proper understanding of these scriptures would only come when it was time for Christ's followers to receive the reward they promise. That's why they warn we "need to discern" the body and blood of the Christ. --- (Some people feel it is wrong to refer to so many English translations of the Bible. If we are going to question the translators, they reason, we should just learn Hebrew and Greek and study from the most ancient copies of the originals. Most of these translators were certainly sincere. Many gave their very lives for their translation effort. As to those who imagine we need to learn Hebrew and Greek and Aramaic, referring to several different translations probably gives a clearer understanding than if we could read from those original languages.
1 Corinthians 11:27-29 ALT (27) So then, whoever eats this bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily [or, in a careless manner], he will be guilty of the body of the Lord and blood of the Lord. (28) But let a person be examining himself, and in this manner let him be eating of the bread and let him be drinking of the cup. (29) For the one eating and drinking unworthily [or, in a careless manner], eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning [or, correctly judging] the body of the Lord.
1 Corinthians 11:27-29 GNB (27) It follows that if one of you eats the Lord's bread or drinks from his cup in a way that dishonors him, you are guilty of sin against the Lord's body and blood. (28) So then, you should each examine yourself first, and then eat the bread and drink from the cup. (29) For if you do not recognize the meaning of the Lord's body when you eat the bread and drink from the cup, you bring judgment on yourself as you eat and drink.
1 Corinthians 11:27-29 BBE (27) If, then, anyone takes the bread or the cup of the Lord in the wrong spirit, he will be responsible for the body and blood of the Lord. (28) But let no man take of the bread and the cup without testing himself. (29) For a man puts himself in danger, if he takes part in the holy meal without being conscious that it is the Lord's body.
1 Corinthians 11:27-29 CEV (27) But if you eat the bread and drink the wine in a way that isn't worthy of the Lord, you sin against his body and blood. (28) That's why you must examine the way you eat and drink. (29) If you fail to understand that you are the body of the Lord, you will condemn yourselves by the way you eat and drink.
1 Corinthians 11:27-29 YLT (27) so that whoever may eat this bread or may drink the cup of the Lord unworthily, guilty he shall be of the body and blood of the Lord: (28) and let a man be proving himself, and so of the bread let him eat, and of the cup let him drink; (29) for he who is eating and drinking unworthily, judgment to himself he doth eat and drink--not discerning the body of the Lord.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
